I nominate: Book of Shadows - Blair Witch 2. Taking everything the original succeeded with: amateur actors, no money, home video style equipment and an interesting story and throwing it all in the trash to come up with professional but unknown actors, a lot of money, professional equipment and a story that interested no one. Was the take on BW2 less than the cost of BW1?

i laughed harder during the trailer for ghost rider because the c.g.i. looked so stupid, so this film might have some of that "so bad it's good mojo". so i'm picking snakes on a plane which seems more likely to qualify under the it's so bad it sucks catagory.

I am excited to announce the launch of my very own DVD Club.
As a lifelong and passionate movie fan, I have often thought it unfortunate that some of the very best movies go unnoticed by the fans who would appreciate those films the most. I created this DVD club so that people who share my love of Sci-fi, Fantasy, and Horror can discover these unheralded gems.

I have personally selected a collection of great films with compelling, original stories, well-written and acted scripts, and the intangible qualities that separate a memorable film from the pack. Because I wanted my collection to be accessible to all fans, I struck special deals with studios to ensure that I could offer my collection affordably. As a result, members will be able to own each DVD in my collection for about the cost of a rental at the local video store.

There is nothing quite as exhilarating as discovering a sci-fi, fantasy or horror classic-to-be that has gone unnoticed by the general movie watching population. I hope you will join me in this discovery of great movies!

Then, just half an hour ago, I find out there's a movie version.
I think everyone can pretty much agree.

Is it the worst movie ever? Nope. It is somewhat fashionable to bash and sometimes that takes away from honest critique.

My two questions are:

1. What actually makes this a bad movie?
2. Where does this movie place in the B movie canon? Name a film that is slightly worse, and one that is slightly better.

My family has evolved a tradition of sorts, without thinking too hard about it, of renting a bad movie to watch after Thanksgiving dinner. It has to be the right sort of bad movie though--cheesy, cheerful or schlocky, without being actually challenging.

I haven't been allowed to pick the movies ever since the Rob Zombie incident, when I took the two troubled pre-teens who had been invited to our house for dinner to the local video store and let them pick House of 1000 Corpses to watch. Hey, how was I supposed to know? I thought it was just low-level goofy schlock? It was kinda fun to see the latecomers blandly trying to eat their turkey dinners with the bloodcurdling shrieks, incredibly naughty words and bloody porny images emanating from the let.

I glanced guiltily at the troubled pre-teen's foster-father, who was watching with stone-faced bemusement, and said "I'm sorry. I'll pay for your kids' therapy after this traumatic incident." He said: "That's ok. They're already in therapy."

This Thanksgiving, I did a little better. I let another kid pick the movie again, and it was horror-schlocky, but it was 13 Ghosts, and it was actually much more what I had in mind. The best scene is when the lawyer 'splits.' Recommended.

Anybody else ever have Movie Choice Fiascos when asked to provide the family entertainment?

The last film we showed was Casshern and it went incredibly well. Anyone out there have any films in mind that would be fun to show?
P.S. ---> We are looking for films that are not easily accessed through main stream means. Our objective is to expose the audience to things they would not normally get a chance to see let alone even hear about.

Flesh of my Flesh needs you!

It's a low-budget action horror movie that looks like a million bucks! Flesh of my Flesh (http://www.FleshOfMyFlesh.com/) chronicles the last hours of the War of the Undead, told from the point of view of the people stuck in the middle.

We're deep in post-production now and we're looking for a handful of very short special visual effects. Basically, there are some key seconds here and there where we could REALLY use a trick of lighting, a flash of inspiration, a dash of rotoscoping, the barest flicker of 3d or even the occasional wire erased. The pieces are rarely more than a second or two long, so the committment isn't that great per piece.

As payment, we can offer our profound gratitude, screen credit, and a copy of the DVD when it's finished.

What kind of schedule are we looking at? Well, the nice thing is that the assignments are all short and are designed to be distributed, so you can take your time and do the great job you've always wanted to do.

A little bit about us: Guerrilla Productions has been making movies since 1999. In 2003, we premiered our first feature, "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath" (which was also animated) and shortly thereafter released it on DVD. It is now in its second printing. In 2004, we released our second DVD, "The Cosmic Horror Fun-Pak". "Flesh of my Flesh" will probably be our third DVD. So, it WILL be produced (in case you were wondering).

Ideally, you'll have some kind of experience with your tools of choice (we really don't care, as long as the files can ultimately be imported into Adobe Premiere, which means damn near any delivery format -- heck, you could send us a collection of sequential bitmaps if need be!), and be willing to ask questions and be eager to try new things. Each scene is a unique and cool piece of this movie.

If you're interested, please drop our CG Supervisor, Leopoldo, a note, at Leopoldo@FleshOfMyFlesh.com, or ask questions here, if you like.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the long-awaited short film EARTH INFERNO by Producto Desecho. This is the first film made based upon a work by Spare and we are delighted to make it available in DVD format. With a total running time of 11 minutes, in full colour, the film evokes the strange theatre and sexuality of Spare's first short book. Due to the nudity
and sexual references this film has been given a 15 certificate by the British Board of Film Censors.

There are two issue available:

A special issue of 51 examples in a special black cloth clam-shell
case, containing a signed polaroid photograph by the film-makers, a limited edition set of photographs of images taken "behind the scenes" during filming, and a certificate of limitation.

£42.00 (p+p for US orders £5.00)

A standard issue of 397 examples with a certificate of limitation.

£15.00 (p+p for US orders £2.50)

IMPORTANT: Orders are fulfilled on a first come, first served basis, so those of you seeking to secure a copy of the special issue are urged to email us and reserve a copy first via: reserve@fulgur.co.uk. For those of you seeking a standard issue, or those with orders for the special issue that have been confirmed, we operate an online system of payment via
www.paypal.com using the email orders@fulgur.org.

PARTY: There will be a launch party at The Mansion House Tavern, 48 Kennington Park Road, London on Saturday May 14th 2005 at 8.00pm for those who would like to raise a glass in celebration of Spare and the achievements
of Producto Desecho in bringing this project to fruition.

PLEASE NOTE: Earth Inferno is available only as a PAL Multi-region DVD.
We are informed most modern DVD players in the US will play a PAL format DVD, but you are advised to check before ordering. The film should play on most PCs and Macs equipped with media software such as Quicktime and Windows Media Player.
If you guys were teaching a class, what films would you pick and why?
My main criteria is that they have to be somehow good examples of the genre, reasonably tolerable to watch and not too over the top sleazy lest I offend the sensibilities of some tender soul with wealthy alumni parents.
Father makes some comment about "Is this what you want to marry?"

Obviously a comment on racial choices, but does anyone remember which film it is?

It was an early color film.

The octopus getting hit by lightning and exploding into a mushroom cloud has got to be one of the silliest and best scenes of all time.

They shot the last Toxie movie within blocks of my grandmother's house in Poughkeepsie, NY (a good fit to be Tromaville, NJ if I've ever seen one). As much as I love the trashiness of those movies, my one constant complaint is that they're always gratuitously long. Toxie 2 and 3 were supposed to be one movie and they shot so much for it that they split it in two. Terror Firmer also just kept going and going and going.

The movies that Troma released but didn't actually make can be hit or miss sometimes, but usually are at least so bad they're good. They put out Cannibal the Musical before anyone even heard of Trey Parker.
