does anyone know where I can buy a relatively reasonably priced copy of this..........a bootlegged dvd would be fine. Some of my friends are touting the sheer genius of Quentin Tarantino, and I just wanted to show them the true genius behind grindhouse

Tarantino's genious is what he borrows from others. I like the films he makes, but I'm so tired of the hype of his "genious".
He's great at combining film genres like an artist doing photo collage, but he's far from being an originator in the way that directors like Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, John Waters and Russ Myer were.
I used to work in movie advertisements many years ago and I met Russ Myer when he was in town promoting the cinema re-release of Faster Pussycat, as the ad agency I worked at was promoting it. He was cool, I got his autograph too.

Sure, Tarantino rips off everyone else, but at least he admits it. I don't think he calls himself a genius--just his fanboys. It's like, he's giving you Cliff's Notes for schlock cinema. Then you can go find his sources and enjoy. :)

well Im hoping to do that for my friends, by exposing them to this great film.........so does anyone know where I might be able to find cheap copy, or at least appeal to someone to burn it for me???

PS I cant justify spending 45 dollars on it

          Hey buddy,

Good point, Ill have to check the interlibrary loan system, it just seems that ever since I moved to the boonies, I kinda lost faith in my local library.........The Carnegie is such a fucking god send though, oh how I miss it

PS my local library didnt even carry anything by Phillip K Dick, Carl Sagan, or Arthur C. Clark until I donated some; I guess welcome to Dick Cheney's America

Oh I know, you should see all the shining new religious brainwashing tripe they have in our local system yet anything scientific or factual is years out of date. The only scifi or fantasy they get is stuff that is very popular, and probably donated.

It's no wonder rural areas are so backwards with that kind of spending priority.

By the way, I agree, the Carnegie system is awesome. I used to practically live in the main branch and the museum next door.

i totally agree, there is nothing wrong with borrowing Ideas from other directors, just look a Akira Kurosawa and George Lucas. It just annoys the hell out of me when people dont recognize, the fact that hes borrowing from other directors

PS what really annoys the hell out of me, about the guy, is the Tarantino present's film line. At times, one can be hard pressed to find the actuel directors name on the film. Though in the long run, it does help expose these films to a larger audience

i actually noticed that right after i posted that response...
we've got them at all the stores, but the stores don't do mail order (only the warehouse does)
i am ordering some today, so check back in a week or so
they haven't put out any more on dvd (the other one that came out at the same time was Motorpsycho) from his collection since his death

when he was still around, Russ Meyer would answer his own phones sometimes...the first time i spoke with him, and i asked who it was, he replied with, "The Man himself...You're talkin' to him."

In the little bit of a career (paying hobby really) I had in the film industry I noticed that people who were pretty well established tended to be pretty cool, it was the less known ones who had the big egos and attitudes, though not all of those were that way either, and there are a small few of the big names you couldn't pay me enough to work with them.

Same thing applied to various crew people. The ones who were solid were very cool, the hacks were a pain all around.

In all honesty, working in the cult movie industry, one would probably have to be pretty chill, after all you become a beacon for every freak, geek and total weirdo in a 100 mile radius (present company excluded of course)

PS James did you know Incredibly Strange Video is shutting down (hell they might be closed already), even now they no longer rent movies and only operate as a retailer. I was always into weird shit, but that video store opened my eyes to a whole new level of FUCKING WEIRD (please excuse my language, I just tend to be a vulgar bastard)

Heck, not just in the cult video business.

You should see how many of the whacked out crowd try to get involved in our project, even some outright criminals, and then there are the other predators out to cause trouble for various reasons.

It's getting to be a bad country to have much exposure to the public in, but in some cases you don't have much choice.

I can really understand why some film people get paranoid.

Too bad about the ISV though. We need sources for more of the hard to find stuff. It really all belongs in the library of congress so it can be preserved. We lose far too many films that just vanish into nothingness.

I've definitely met a full range of personalities in my corner of the entertainment industry...I can easily say that he is one of the more memorable I've spoken with. He was ALWAYS in a great mood, very friendly, and had a new story each time I called.

I don't mean to make it sound like we were best buds or something...I only spoke with him a dozen or so times, but he had a way of making you feel like you were an old friend that he was excited to hear from...It's easy to see why everyone loved the old perv. That definitely includes me.
