Some that come to mind:
Spaced Invaders. -- "I'd sell my grandmother for a space navy"
Death Race -- Too funny for words. One of the few banned video arcade games too.
Dark Star -- Space surfing anyone?

I had to watch it twice to recognize the how bad it was.
Not a Manos or a Battle Ship Earth but definatley bad -

Re: Campy or intentionally so Bad-It's-Good.
Thu, March 17, 2005 - 5:20 AMOK. I didn't see Battlefield Earth, but my boyfriend really liked it. He realizes he's the only person on the planet who did, but what was so horrible about it?
I mean, was it BAD BAD, or was it one of those movies that's so bad it's good? Not everyone likes even those kinds of movies.
Like, I liked Waterworld. I loved it. But everyone I've spoken to has hated it, or they have some deep-seeded resentment towards Kevin Costner & therefore hated it on principle. -
-
Re: Campy or intentionally so Bad-It's-Good.
Thu, March 17, 2005 - 6:34 AMI might be the only person on the planet who really liked Manos--maybe because after the buildup, it just wasn't quite as horrible as I expected it to be. -

Re: Campy or intentionally so Bad-It's-Good.
Sat, March 19, 2005 - 6:50 PMThe Tingler (1958), with Vincent Price, or any William Castle movie for that matter. He always instilled a broad level of camp in his films, as if to lull the audience before springing his new gimmick on them.
"Dark Star -- Space surfing anyone?"
I saw that one at a screening at an SF convention and the audience crooned right along with that dopey country song in the opening credits-
"Benson, Arizona, the warm wind through yer hair,
Mah body flies the galaxy, mah heart longs to be there..."

-
Re: Campy or intentionally so Bad-It's-Good.
Sat, March 19, 2005 - 10:27 PMYeah, it is campy for sure. I saw Dark Star in a little art cinema place in Anchorage.
You are so right about the William Castle films.
Wasn't he the one who did 13 Ghosts? -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Campy or intentionally so Bad-It's-Good.
Sun, March 20, 2005 - 11:56 PMYep, and the original House on Haunted Hill and one or two of those Joan Crawford nutzoid-women-with-axes movies that came out just after Psycho and Baby Jane. They're all really lurid with elements of humor. John Waters calls him a major influence. -
-
Re: Campy or intentionally so Bad-It's-Good.
Fri, April 22, 2005 - 8:33 PMRead Castle's autobiography, "Step Right Up!: I'm Gonna Scare the Pants Off America." A real "slice of life" running narrative and a damned good read, IMO. I devoured it over 2 nights and enjoyed the hell out of it.

Re: Campy or intentionally so Bad-It's-Good: "MANOS"
Mon, April 4, 2005 - 9:57 PMI *love* "Manos"... really! One of my favorite weird bad movies ever! But it wasn't intentionally campy or so-bad-it's-good. All that weirdness is organic, not contrived. Which is part of the mystery that is "Manos."

Re: Campy or intentionally so Bad-It's-Good.
Tue, March 22, 2005 - 7:02 AMHeck, it's a metaphor for the whole processed food and advertising industry.
It shows how greed will make people sell anything.
It shows quite well how people will try anything if there is enough hype, even if it is untested.
That's the great thing about fiction, it is an excellent educational tool for philosophical topics. -

-
Re: Campy or intentionally so Bad-It's-Good.
Thu, August 4, 2005 - 12:00 PMWell, anything with Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer can't be bad.
I just love it when Bud has to deal with 30 or so guys jumping him only to see the big lug rise up with a mightly roar and send the guys flying left and right. That and his HANDS OF STONE~~~!
Another classic, Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter, the tale of how Jesus and El Santos (not to be confused with El Santo) got rid of an evil troupe of gothy vampires bent on exploiting the lesbians of Ottawa for their fiendish plans. -

Elvira: Mistress of the Dark ----
"How's your head?"
"Haven't had any complaints....."
I had the theatrical standup/puzzle that they released on valentines day as a promo for that movie. The caption was "get a piece of Elvira." My favorite groupie looked very much like her.
Great mammaries.... memories....

Re: Campy or intentionally so Bad-It's-Good.
Sat, August 6, 2005 - 1:40 AM"Doc Savage" is an underrated movie. It's a comedy, for Pete's sake!
"Anything with Brion James (R.I.P.)"
Indeed. I met him once, talked for a long while, was going to do an interview and then he died. I never met an actor who loved his trade as much. He was one of the all-time great character types. -
-
Re: Campy or intentionally so Bad-It's-Good.
Mon, August 8, 2005 - 8:32 PMI had a similar experience with Trevor Goddard on a film I was working in MD that he was in. Of all the talent he was the best to talk to and the least arrogant. It really sucks that he died, I'd have liked to work with him more for the voice overs for our project.

Thu, August 11, 2005 - 5:04 AMI was going to mention anything by Ed Woods, but that's too easy... instead, a movie with the worst puppetry I've ever seen, so bad it makes me laugh: The Terrible Claw. -

Re: Campy or intentionally so Bad-It's-Good.
Thu, August 11, 2005 - 11:23 AMI just rented one called Blood Angels the other night. I'd say it was everything a b-movie should be. Very campy and it starred Lorenzo Lamas as the head vampire. Check it out if you get the chance.
