We watched this again last night, after having watched several "disaster" flicks.
Okay, I LIKE that in this disaster flick, the world isn't saved by a spaceship full of nuclear weapons or a plucky young scientist.
I LIKE that right early on, they declare the world will end and... it does. Watching it, I could almost hear some Presidential Aide somewhere say "Unless we..." Nope. Everybody dies. End of the world. Yay!
Was there ever a sequel? (I know there were at least two books)
What would you suggest would be a good double feature with "When Worlds Collide"?

Re: "When Worlds Collide"
Mon, November 7, 2005 - 3:38 PMI kind of like the idea of seeing the original Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price. Two very different views of the end of the world, each offering us a different perspective on civilization renewing itself.
Whatcha think?

Re: "When Worlds Collide"
Mon, November 7, 2005 - 3:43 PMOh, BTW! The sequel "After Worlds Collide" was never made (a great book and highly recommended). Not sure if it was ever considered for production. It would certainly be a great movie to make in the here and now, given it's prescient take on global politics/nationalism.

Tue, November 8, 2005 - 7:33 AM"War of the Worlds" or "The Day the Earth Stood Still" would be my suggestions for a double bill -

Yeah, we have that one, too. It's great! Gotta watch it using the projector now. -

Thu, November 10, 2005 - 10:25 AM...or i guess, pretty much ANYTHING by Irwin Allen *G*... how about the Lost in Space pilot movie? -

Re: "When Worlds Collide"
Thu, November 10, 2005 - 11:11 AMMmmmaybe. I mean therr's Irwin Allen and then there's George Pal and I don't quite consider 'em on par with each other. -

Re: "When Worlds Collide"
Thu, November 10, 2005 - 11:32 AMno -- anything Pal did was WAY better than Allen. but Allen is the king of disaster flix. -

Re: "When Worlds Collide"
Fri, November 11, 2005 - 3:19 PMI'd pair WWC with "The Day The Earth Caught Fire" (1961) by Val Guest. Nuclear tests by both the US and the Soviet Union literally blow the world off its axis, causing massive climate change and threatened world destruction. We follow two Bristish newsmen (Edward Judd and Leo McKern) as they uncover the truth from their uncooperative government. It's an underscreened classic.

Sat, November 12, 2005 - 2:42 PMgood one!
MGM is putting out a great set of DVDs called Midnite Movies -- i just picked up a double-feature of Panic in the Year Zero and The Last Man on Earth. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

Mon, November 14, 2005 - 10:39 AMFinally....a decent copy of "The Last Man on Earth". I've been dealing with a cheap, drugstore quality DVD for a couple of years!
