Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sat, November 13, 2004 - 7:00 PMIn my opinion it is Above the Rim. The only movie that I have actually walked out of, at a $1 theatre. The other movies that sucked are the same ones I don't remember. So it works for me. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Fri, November 19, 2004 - 12:52 AMTroma's early 80's venture into romantic sex comedy Stuck On You. Featuring Prof. Irwin Corey. It's not even entertainly bad like most of Troma's output, just awful. Bad, wooden acting like you haven't seen since the dawn of film. -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever? Troma films and people.
Wed, March 16, 2005 - 4:43 AMThey have a flair for bad, but that is intentional as you say.
I've had some good conversations with their very weird head man during dinners at some of the big conventions I've gone to.
He's really strange but fun.
Funny side note, the guy you see just to the right of me in my profile pic has been in about 8 Troma films, and tons of others.

Mon, November 29, 2004 - 5:10 PMI have to ask... what do you do for work that caused you to sit through Mission to Mars?
Did you sue the company for harassment?!? -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Mon, November 29, 2004 - 5:27 PMActually, that little outing was instrumental in my decision to quit working for that place.
It was one of those little Seattle tech companies that started up just exactly as The Boom began its nosedive. Taking us to the movie was one of those cute little employee morale things they used to do--we were too cut-rate for things like champagne and sushi parties and slides in the playroom.
It was a singularly depressing event because the so-called morale even happened on the same day they announced their first round of layoffs. Somehow, the company and that utterly depressing spaceship are forever linked in my mind. -

Wed, March 16, 2005 - 8:50 AMhahaha I actually really liked "Robin Hood: Men in Tights"
But then, I saw it while drunk at the drive-in, so that might have had something to do with it....
Mel Brooks has given us some great flicks!! BUT, he also gave us:

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Tue, January 18, 2005 - 7:48 AMI finally got to see Manos a few months ago. After all the buildup, I was expecting something a lot worse.
I found Manos actually fairly entertaining and watchable. Torgo is mesmerizing, and the gossamer-robed catfight is pretty good too. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Fri, January 28, 2005 - 8:35 AMIt had some imagery which was nearly interesting, but other than that, I thought it was pretty vapid and sort of pretentious.
What did you like about it? -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Fri, January 28, 2005 - 12:35 PMI liked some of the ideas in the flick, and the dialogue, and the bad acting that made it campy. And the amazingly crappy special effects. And the pacing. And how all the characters were so unlovable, they were lovable. I took it as a comedy, and we used to have "Liquid Sky" parties where we'd watch the flick (but not do heroin).
Fifteen years later, some of my friends still quote the movie to one another.
I think if I were new to it, and saw it today for the first time, I'd might just skim it and not enjoy it as much. But, like many movies, it was a marker of a time, a place, and group of friends for me. So I love it!
Many people love THE NEVERENDING STORY, but I would have to rank that one high on the list of Worst Movies That Neverending Should Have Been Made. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sun, October 1, 2006 - 1:38 AMOh, thank you. I actually opened up the thread to put Liquid Sky in. It's absolutely my all time most hated movie. Not just disliked, but absolutely hated it. Funnily enough, my Dad thinks it's great. =)
The Star Wars Holiday Special probably comes second, if that counts as a movie. It's one of those that if you try to tell someone about it, it _sounds_ funny. It's NOT. It's horrible. I watched it once, and tried to show it to someone else, and I couldn't even make it through the first 10 minutes of wookie conversation.
Third... would probably be Fantasy Mission Force, sort of starring Jackie Chan. It's one of those where you just kind of watch it in stunned silence. Round about the time the pink flaming Chinese nazis riding cadillacs chariot style come into play... I mean, just don't watch it drunk or high, or anything. I can't imagine how much weirder it could possibly be. Oh, and the gay Chinese Scots with the plastic mace... Oog. Oh, and I own it. On DVD, no less. Don't ask me why, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Tue, March 15, 2005 - 5:37 AMThat reminds me of "The Pirana Women", which may have been a spoof of it. It had Shannon Tweed & Bill Marr, about a clan of women who ate men with avocado dip. -

Liquid Sky..not bad..just creepy.
Neverending story..great story..badly made
anything with bruce jenner trying to act...gotta be bad. -

Mars Attacks is hilarious
Wed, March 16, 2005 - 5:05 AMI loved it as a great spoof.
I all most wet myself from the Tom Jones in Vegas scene when the BU singers were replaced by aliens.
Although I would have probably picked the song Daughter of Darkness for that scene, but it is not as widely recognized as his stuff.

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Tue, February 15, 2005 - 9:49 AMHigh on the list should be
SPECIES.
Good freakin' god... how horrible can a movie get? I wanted to shoot Forrest Whittaker, kick Al Molina in the head... and poor, poor Ben Kingsly walked through that flick with a look on his face that read "I'm getting paid. I'm getting paid. And the upshot is that I will die at the end of the film. I'm getting paid. I'm getting paid..."
It was the second movie where we actually wanted our money back for sitting through the whole thing as a reward!
The first movie was, of course, The Neverending Story.

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Wed, March 2, 2005 - 10:56 PMBo Derek in "Tarzan the Ape Man"...OMG so funny!!! I read that Richard Harris was so drunk he didn't even remember filming it. And don't forget Miles O'Queef as Tarzan...the man has the screen presence of a grease smudge.
a total cocktease too...Bo and Tarz never get it on which is frustrating...but it's chock-full of gratuitious Bo Derek nudity, including a bizarre and pointless scene where natives paint her entire body white....?
also getting honorable mention is "Universal Soldier"...I think a couple of drops of pee came out when I was watching that. -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Wed, March 2, 2005 - 10:59 PMoh and also "Nightwatch"...worth watching if only for the scene where the whore jacks off Ewan Macgregor at the dinner table...the look on his face when he squirts is priceless!!

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sun, October 1, 2006 - 1:59 AMTarzan the Ape Man was the only movie I ever had to watch on fast forward just to get through it. Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Thu, March 10, 2005 - 1:02 AMI liked Saturday the 14th, too. Every once in a while, to express my utter dismay at a bone-headed suggestion, I will exclaim "That would be like closing the barn doors AFTER the horses have eaten the children!"
I've even done that in meetings and by now, no one bats an eye. They come to expect that of me. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sat, March 12, 2005 - 3:26 PMThe Apple (1979) is such great bad cinema, like Xanadu crossed with 1984. In it, the leader of the free world is chosen by a Eurovision/American Idol-type contest. Some flamboyantly gay disco entrants then rig it, beating these boring christian soft-rockers to win the earth's hearts and mids. But the gay disco tyrants are soon found unpopular, perhaps by inadvertantly making power ballads seem cool.
Also, 976-EVIL II comes to mind. It's a typical schlock late-80s zombie flick until its zombies literally get in the movie It's A Wonderful Life. Once "inside" this classic film (actual clips are used w/zombies super-imposed into them) they feed on George Bailey, Uncle Billy, Mr. Potter, Ernie the Cabbie, etc. This "it's-a wonderful-undead" (now zombie themselves) get out of the film and start sucking brains same as any flesh-eater next door would. -

Unintentionally bad/funny film story
Wed, March 16, 2005 - 5:19 AMTwilight of the Dogs. Perhaps the stupidest plot line ever put to paper or film. Also one of the dumb effects ideas, a fake looking doll, as in really badly sculpted, with LEDs on it that change colors to indicate the condition of areas of the body of an "attractive" female alien.
I had just finished working on a really ball buster of a movie with the ever present Hack, John Ellis.....
He premiered his film from about two years prior, having just finished post production, at a SciFi con in DC called Disclave.
He was sitting behind me during the premier.
At one point it got so bad I had to start making some quips and before long the whole place was cracking comments and howling, except a few stuffy types afraid to piss John off.
John got so mad he start kicking the back of my chair and saying, in the voice of an angry little kid, "You're just so cool and better than the rest of us."
Oh, well, some times you just have to be yourself and not care who you piss off.

I was pretty young when I went to see HOWARD THE DUCK and, the best I can recall, I remember that I was expecting to see Lea Thompson get it on with Howard and I was sooo disappointed when it never happened on screen. I don't know why I expected it but it definitely put poor Howard on my sh_t list for all time.
Shame really, because the movie was not as bad as everyone said it was. Bad, but not that bad.
Okay, it was bad. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Fri, November 25, 2005 - 1:53 PMMeanwhile, who can doubt that Sylvester Stallone was guilty of two of the most atrocious cinematic turds turds ever plotzed out onto the screen :
"Rhinestone" and "Over the Top", which ride shotgun with the Hulk Hogan opus "No Holds Barred" as films with less overall entertainment value than spending the equivalent amount of time cleaning a litterbox

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Fri, April 22, 2005 - 12:27 AMActually, I finally got an answer to this question. At first I was going to say "Metal Messiah" [1978] www.imdb.com/title/tt0079549/combined but then I realized that the absolute, truly worst film I had ever seen was "Too Outrageous!" [1987] www.imdb.com/title/tt0094165/combined starring female impersonator Craig Russell. The former film stretches the definition of bad, but at least it has some trashy entertainment value. The Russell film, on the other hand, is strictly for lovers of the morbid - and even most of them will be put off. Craig Russell died not long after this sequel to the quirky but acclaimed Outrageous! [1977]. He went through epic drug addiction, STD, and very public mental breakdowns. Which tends to make the trite & sleazy references to all these things in the screenplay of Too Outrageous that much more unpleasant to be subjected to. If ever there was a film that was NOT for watching, but which is for lying down and avoiding, this is definitely it. Believe it or not, every film (with the exception of those by Meryl Streep) listed in this thread is better than Too Outrageous.
BTW, both "Metal Messiah" and "Too Outrageous" are shining examples of government-funded Canadian cinema. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Fri, April 22, 2005 - 8:19 PMSo very many great BAD movies...did everyone forget Robot Monster? How about The Robot vs. The Aztec Mummy? Maybe The Braniac?
Everyone's favorite movie to hate (Plan 9) is so bad, it's good. I love watching it for a laugh and for the pure, unbridled silliness of the dialogue, "acting", sets, etc.
Me, I like bad almost as much as I like good...it's all so subjective. -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Fri, April 29, 2005 - 3:43 AMBRAINIAC!! I *love* that movie! A tureen full of brains, yum!!
And how about Wrestling Women Vs. The Aztec Mummy? Wild Wild World Of Batwoman (aka She Was A Hippy Vampire)? Let Me Die A Woman (Doris Wishman)? Single Room Furnished (Jayne Mansfield)? Mad Doctor Of Blood Island?
Starting to get the feeling I know *way* too much about bad movies? lol -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Fri, April 29, 2005 - 7:53 AMYeah, The Brainiac is pretty bad and just so very ODD! I recently (and remarkably) found it on DVD from Alpha Video...the disc was much higher quality than I would have expected. Originally released as El Baron del Terror in 1961, Brainiac is great fun and a real treat for any B-movie buff who has not seen it...or not seen it in a while.
Wild World of Batwoman (as well as Rat Pfink & Boo-Boo) is a real trip and another baddie that seems to have been "written" by 6-7 different people, none of whom had any idea what the others were wrirtng about at the time. Automatic Scripting?
Hurrah for the good, bad movie!

it looks like it was filmed by semi-retarded apes in larry harvey's garage.
also, there was a movie on TBS in the mid nineties having to do with white monkey people who lived beneath the earth. and the white monkey people had tan lines, and wrist-watches. if anyone knows the title of this film, my whole family would be in your debt.
what about "night of the lepus" about the killer giant bunnies? or "bride of the monster"? or "patch adams"? -

The real "Worst" movies to me are never b- or z- grade movies, which can hold a car-wreck-type of fascination even when they totally suck. Mind-numbingly mediocre Hollywood garbage, destroyed by demographics, test screenings, and jittery executives are the real enemy. Anything directed by Garry Marshall or Joel Schumacher.
"Exit To Eden" based on the Anne Rice book sticks out in my mind as the very worst ever, where I was literally reduced to screaming at my tv set in agony. Rosie O' Donnell in bondage gear, and the height of kinkiness represented by a spanking with a hairbrush from Dana Delaney... (In the book, which also sucked, she at least fucks him with a strap-on.)
8mm, XXX, Flawless, Ace Ventura...
These all made me sicker to my stomach than any film by Michael Findlay ever could.

That was one bizarre film! Sort of a collision between a rotten script, auto-pilot directing and a weird star performance by Strother Martin. It was his only lead in a movie, I think.

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sat, August 20, 2005 - 2:26 PMA friend of mine is an agent for a film distribution company. She was watching a film called The Rockville Slayer last night. It used to be called Unaware. We sat and couldn't believe this crap. It was worse than someone's home movie. It "starred" joe Estevez and Linnea Quigley and Robert Zdar. It was sooo bad and slow and boring and I hate to say that because I am a personal friend of Linnea. It starred someguy who looked like The Scarecrow who acted like a sissy all the way through. In the end somebody kills somebody and then everyone goes home. This isn't a so-bad it's good movie, it's a so-bad that it's inconceivable that anyone could ever put it out on dvd.

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Wed, November 23, 2005 - 10:47 AMLordy Lou! People have disagreed with others before on this tribe but I've never seen anybody go so low and be as ungracious as Claudia with a personal attack on Rachel. Maybe Claudia should move to one of those countries where people are only allowed to have one opinion...hers. A tribe with open discussion is obviously too much for her to handle. Put her comments up against Rachel's and I'll take Rachel's any day.
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Wed, November 23, 2005 - 9:45 PMRe - maybe it's Rockville Slayer!?! RACHEL - LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!!
Don't worry Ray, Claudia and her cronies don't do anything except sit at home (or at work or in the library or wherever) at the computer and type away attacking anyone who says anything bad about their film. But sometimes the all take on fake profiles and start praising their film and they think no one catches on. Her next plan of action will be either to continue attacking me or anyone else who panned her film or to start piling on fake praise in this or other Tribes. But her best bet would be to just go away, these people are just so tired. They're not worth our effort to respond to.

Wed, November 23, 2005 - 1:17 PMYou guys might be on to something. Claudia's comments read like she's way too attached to her film. I mean I love LIQUID SKY but I wouldn't go nutso and rag on anybody who commented negatively about it. If Claudia is for real then she's got some nasty mental problems. If Claudia is a fake and just sniping at Rachel then she got some other nasty mental problems. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Mon, November 28, 2005 - 11:09 AMThe funny thing about the IMDB is that one can kvetch and have removed reviews that are uncomplimentary about a movie and one can kvetch and have removed comments on discussion boards that are uncomplimentary about a movie, but one can't remove bad votes.
So, it's interesting in the case of "The Rockville Slayer" to see so many complimentary reviews, but so many pooty stars. 8)
Of course, I wouldn't have bothered if not for the claim that it was somehow exceptionally clever. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Thu, August 25, 2005 - 9:52 AMOne of the worst films ever made, so bad it doesn't even have an IMDB entry: "Pigs".
Cannibal pigs on a farm. No special effects, no decent acting, in a very low-budget, low quality even on the camera work (as a film school grad, it grated on me). Rented for a club of deliberately bad films, watched mostly on Fast Forward it took 15-20 minutes to watch - and those minutes were still painful. -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sat, September 3, 2005 - 7:18 AMIf I'm not mistaken....I saw a trailer for "Pigs" once, if you can believe that...it was on some awful low budget VHS tape. It looked like some kind of bad morning farm report with some guy screaming over it. I never saw the movie itself though....not like I was actually looking for it. -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sun, September 11, 2005 - 6:33 PMOkay, I OWN Manos on dvd and I watch it every now and then. Sure it's badly done, but there is a certain charm to it. I enjoy watching it.
My least favorite film of all time? I dunno. Too many in too many catagories to consider. But of all time? How about G.I Jane? -
-
The Starfighters
Mon, September 12, 2005 - 5:52 PMWow. I mean, just....wow. This was one of those movies that's so mesmerizingly bad, you have to keep watching.
Who knew that mid-air jet refueling could be so fraught with sexual implications? Who knew, for that matter, that there's any commonality at all between a sexy woman and the rear end of a fusilage? Footage of jets flying in the air and bombing stuff. Lots and lots of footage! And lots of scenes fraught with vague drama in which nothing ever happens!!!
There's a square-jawed dada genius to this 1964 patriotic production, I swear there is. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sat, October 15, 2005 - 7:16 PMI really like many of the movies mentioned, so it's obvious how bad my taste is. Then again, part of why I like many of the movies you've mentioned is because although horrible to watch alone, they make excellent group drinking games.
Anyway, I have two picks for worst movie ever:
I Eat Your Skin, maybe because I was so grossly disappointed.
Bram Stoker's Dracula, the one with Keanu Reeves and Winona Rider. Again, I think because I was just so incredibly disappointed. -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sun, October 16, 2005 - 2:43 PMI mentioned Rockville Slayer a few posts above... I got to tell you what happened. My friend was posting some stuff (reviews, comments) on Amazon.com a couple of weeks ago and came across the film for sale. He wrote a short review and said what a bad film it was. He couldn't believe it when he got e-mails from the director bitching that someone would ever write a bad review about his film on Amazon. The director even complained to Amazon and had them remove the "offending" review from their website. OMG! So funny. How pathetic that a director actually would get angry with someone just posting their opinion! Ha-ha! I'm sure Speilberg goes through Amazon and the imdb every day to hunt down the people who don't like his films! :) The moral is: don't ever say anything bad about Mark Selz or his movies! -

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sun, October 16, 2005 - 11:13 PMIt's more fun to discuss 'em on the IMDB discussion boards, anyway. I saw a post on the IMDB discussion board by the DP of a movie, APOLOGIZING for it! But it was a pretty sucky movie: Leeches! -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Mon, October 17, 2005 - 10:52 AMAt least that DP must have had a sense of humor, Edward. I give him his props for being so honest. But I just can't get over that other guy being so lame. I think he was actually claiming that everyone who was ripping his film actually had not seen it ... or something similarly lame like that. -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Mon, October 17, 2005 - 12:25 PMIt's hard sometimes to place your own work outside of the context of your own perception. It might be the cat's pajamas to you, but out in the world, it might just be... so-so. As hard as that is to understand, it just is.
This is not to say that it stops becoming Your Best Effort, or even Brilliant (for your reel).
A friend of mine who was a comic told me (I paraphrase) "If people laugh, it's funny. If they don't, it wasn't. Period. There is no other measure."
If people say a movie is stinky or brilliant (or, my favorites: brilliantly stinky and stinkily brilliant), then chances are, it is exactly that. I'd count myself lucky if I could make movies like half the movies listed here.
Except Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I wouldn't want to have made that.

Re: Worst Movie Ever?

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Wed, November 23, 2005 - 1:12 PMWow, I am a fan of The Rockville Slayer and because I defended it and because I find it entertaining you go after the people who made it. I don't know any of them so it really does not matter. I thought we were just talking about the film here. I was scrolling the many pages on Yahoo that talked about the film because I like it. I wanted to find out more information on it. I saw this remark on page twenty or so and thought I would defend the film. Man you people are like flies, let Rachel fight her own battles. -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Wed, November 23, 2005 - 4:08 PMHah, Ha! There's no battle to fight here. I have my opinion and, Claudia, you are trying to sell your movie. You acted like an amateur by disgusing yourself as a "fan" when it's really your own movie. You're so silly, calling names and stuff like that. I think it's hilarious. Do you really think anyone believes that you were "scrolling the many pages on Yahoo" to find out more about your own movie? It's just like you did to my friend on IMDB and to others on Amazon. You didn't defend your movie, you attacked somebody who had an honest opinion. People weren't defending me here, although I thank them for being so kind, they were ridiculing you for being so amateurish and childish.
If we're to believe your story, pls tell us what other films you like? And where did you post comments attacking other people who panned those films? Uh,oh...there are none. Your lie is exposed. You're not a fan, you're part of the production team, and make yourself look so petty when you do things like this.
Don't bother arguing with her, fellow Tribemates, she's not worth it and she's only hurting "her" own film with silly posts like this. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Thu, November 24, 2005 - 7:01 PMOK, guys, it's the holidays, so let's not pile on poor Claudia anymore. He/she has enough problems without us calling names. It was a bad choice of action for her to post her silliness here and we're just wasting his/her time and our time with all this going back and forth. Let's let it drop and just go on with our normal discussions. Since no one is ever likely to see Rockville Slayer, I hereby withdraw my nomination of that film and submit the remake of WILLARD with Crispen Glover.
Crispen, if you're out there, we've already determined that I'm butt ugly, so please don't crucify me here! :) -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sat, November 26, 2005 - 8:36 PMOkay - I thought we could post opinions here. I'm sorry for insulting you, but I posted my opinion of what I thought of your pictures and you posted your opinion on what you thought about that film. I thought this was a country where we can speak freely. I rented the film at Hollywood Video and I enjoyed it. Oh my, what a crime that I would defend it. Anyway...I would stop connecting me to the production of this film...I'm sure the filmmakers would give two craps about this whole topic or would they really care about what I say or about what someone who takes their clothes off and posts pictures of them on sites like these to get attention. I don't know any of them, but it sounds like you do or know someone who was affiliated with the film at one point. I didn't realize it was a crime to defend something that you enjoyed watching. Speaking of WILLARD, the remake, I really enjoyed that movie as well. I'm a big fan of Crispen Glover...are you going to connect me with Crispen Glover or the makers of WILLARD now? Anyway, I'm really looking forward to his directorial debut and loved him in the 80's classic, My Tutor. On the subject of Worst movie ever...Rachel, did you ever see the movie Dark Wind Woods? I saw it a while back. It was so bad, I don't even think it made it to video. Rachel, did you see it????? -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sun, November 27, 2005 - 5:49 AMClaudia says she thought this was a country where she can speak freely but she got all upset when people defended Rachel?? So Claudia only wants a country where she can speak freely but no one else can?? Hah. Poor girl.
Claudia protests too much, wouldn't you say? She's got mad crazy reasoning and I think she is lying about her connection to her film.
Rachel, don't bother replying to her, please!!!! Claudia has no sense of conversational skills and continuing her diatribe to promote her film just takes this thread down a weary path.
If the rest of the tribe disagrees with me, then I will withdraw my request.
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sun, November 27, 2005 - 8:17 AMWhat trite nonsense! Claudia sounds like a spoilt child and simply doesn't comprehend the spirit of this thread or this Tribe. I agree with Charles and plead to Rachel not to respond and continue Claudia's childishness. Let's end this here and now. Claudia, go to your room. Everyone else, please continue to play in good fellowship and fun. -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sun, November 27, 2005 - 9:42 AMClaudia hasn't said one word in defense of her own movie. All she's done is lied and attacked. She's tried to hide behind a fake ID. She says that the producers of her film wouldn't care about a little tribe like this, and yet she's proving her deceit again by obsessing right here. I'm sorry I've even wasted my time typing a comment about her idiocy. I could have farted and been more productive than any of her posts. -

Holy jean-snapping bad! And I figured "Hey, Chuck Norris is in it, I should at least get to see some kind of kicking or something, right?" Oh man, steamy-rich delicious cult propoganda. What the hell? I missed the news where Chuck Norris was abducted into a cult, didn't I?

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Mon, December 5, 2005 - 8:46 AMLast night I watched a most interesting movie, although probably not interesting for the reason you would think. Our local Blockbuster has EIGHT copies of "The War of the Planets", something new and spooky from Las Vegas.
I love that ANYTHING GOES in Las Vegas. At least, as far as I can tell by watching this movie.
On the plus side, the premise actually is kinda' neat and creepy: a bunch of astronauts wake up after a 15-year cryosleep to discover they are trapped in their respective cryotubes, unable to move from muscle atrophy (or something) and are picked off one-by-one by a creature that stalks the corridor.
On the minus side, it was horribly executed, with 3D effects that I would consider "mockup" at best. Oh my. While we were watching it, I asked my wife if I could hit "pause" to go get a dish of ice cream. She laughed and said, "no, no, I'll make you a dish -- just keep watching. Please don't pause it."
As I scan through the credits, we were amused to see the same names popping up again and again. The way I figure it, this fellow got a bunch of his buddies together and they just decided to make a movie and so people just did what they did.
Two of my favorite highlights: the inside of the "cryotubes" wobbling, and the creature tearing through what was supposed to be impossible-to-break plastic as if it were thin plexiglas -- and having the person inside able to push the stuff around as easily, too. A small step above saran wrap, there.
But -- that said -- this was pretty much exactly what I expected. A strange, ultra low-budget sci-fi movie. -

This might actually be a GOOD movie. It's one of those old shortened 8mm home movies made from a chopped up version of THIS ISLAND EARTH. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever? I thought I saw them all until....
Thu, April 13, 2006 - 12:30 PMMax the Magician!
Yuck, blah, barf, ugh, puke, etc. etc.
Man this thing has to be the worst low budget unfettered piece of trash in the history of low budget self serving film mangling.
It was made at a faire in maryland and has all the bad makeup, sloppy costumes, cheesy armor and weapons and crud you normally see at the more commercialized faires and on top of it the story and acting are also the worst I have every seen.
This thing couldn't even pass itself off as film made by a first year film student. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever? I thought I saw them all until....
Thu, April 13, 2006 - 5:22 PMHave you guys seen the incredibly offensive Italian Star Wars ripoff series with Star Odyssey and War of the Robots? Most incompetent SW ripoffs even. Features insanely bad everything, including acting, dubbing, music, camerawork and special effects. But it gains major bonus points for being blatantly misogynistic. I also enjoyed the suicidal robot lovers who can't remember why they had a suicide pact. Finally the big reveal at the end is the decided to commit suicide because they were incapable of having sex, and the film ends with the good guy scientist leader Professor X-type gleefully telling them that it's not problem to build them some gentials!
Uggggh!
Even the male robot is a robo-misogynist. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Mon, June 5, 2006 - 11:38 AMAh, I shall be losing friends at an alarming rate, I uspect.
The last time I reported I this thread, I had rented "The Bells of Innocence", expecting Chuck Norris to hit people a lot, but all I ended up with was a Christian propaganda film (which I was forced to stop twenty minutes in) and a roomful of people, one of whom stood up after we stopped that movie and declared "To get the taste of that out of my brain, I must watch a lot of violence. Or a lot of sex."
But after this weekend, I think i have found my latest "rated POS" movie ever: "Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation"
Holy crapoly! I have never before watched a movie that sucked so bad it actually lifted me from my seat. Three times during the movie, I caught myself saying aloud "Please get better. Please?!" It made Starship Troopers a brilliant act of social commentary by comparision. It took a decent property, and a decent setup and just completely shitcanned it, replacing it with, well, with something really, really awful.
I told my wife I had seen the worst movie ever, and she said "Well, how does it compare with 'War of the Planets'?" which is a valid question.
You might remember my brief review of War of th Planets as a horrible movie made for abought eighteen dollars in what seemed to be the back yard of a Las Vegas edge-of-town house.
I thought about it and I realized that Starship Troopers 2 was, in fact, WORSE than War of the Planets.
War of the Planets had a cheap earnestness to go with it's overall cheapness, and it never tried to outdo its low budget.
Starship Troopers 2, on the other hand, had at least a DECENT pedigree, yet fell so far it made Satan wince when it struck. I mean, movies don't get THAT shitty until #4 or #5. There was nothing even remotely interesting in it from the first movie, no real battle scenes, no real bloodshed. Nothing, really. Even the guns looked hokey and fake and gave off these weird blue blips of light instea of just shooting things.
Footage was recycled from the first movie.
Several scenes were post-treated to blue to make it look different somehow, but as anyone who's ever been aboard a small ship can tell you, blue-dying a turd doesn't make it any tastier.
When it was over, I begged forgiveness of my friends. I promised them we would watch Kill Bill next time.

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Wed, June 21, 2006 - 1:02 AMYou don't think 'Santa Claus Conquers the Martians' was redeemed by Pia Zadora's performance? Pia's breakout film, 'Lonely Lady', is way up there on my list. Harold Robbins, Dino deLaurentis, the Academy Awards, garden hose rape scene, it's got it all. Definitely 'Showgirls'. It's kind of cheating to list low budget or horror films, but while trying not to watch 'Attack of the Vampire Hookers' (featuring John Carradine, the sign of quality) you'll notice that some of the vampires have tan lines.

Mon, July 3, 2006 - 6:52 PM"New Kind Of Love"
i walked in to the living room and my girl was watching this so i flopped down on the couch to see the last 2/3d's of this movie thinking that a little 50's romantocomedy brain-rot can't hurt me......geez was i wrong...at one point during one of the very repressed fantasy sequences that was supposed to be racey for it's time i turned to her and said "ya know now i really really understand why people needed to do a lot of drugs in the 60's"
"there's a unique combination of nausea and the feeling that you have been violated that you can ONLY get from this film!!!!!"
i actually got the dry heaves from the bit at the end where they use a football game as a metaphor for marriage and finally ........getting it on.
IF YOU DRINK POISON AND THE WARNING LABEL SAYS "INDUCE VOMITING" THEN PLEASE BE MY GUEST AND WATCH THIS FILM.

Tue, July 4, 2006 - 4:33 AM*Vivre pour survivre* / *White Fire* (1984) gets my vote. I could never finish watching it.
A few other horrendous movies: *Blood Dolls* (1999), *The Crow: City of Angels* (1996), *Highlander II: The Quickening* (1991) and *Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace* (1999). I saw *Stacy: Attack of the Schoolgirl Zombies* (2001) two days ago, and I cannot say it's the worst movie ever, but it's quite awful even for a zombie flick.

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Fri, September 22, 2006 - 8:46 PMhuh. I've seen movies I own on here (Pigs, Cannibal Women of the Avocado Jungle), but I haven't seen some of my other faves:
Forbidden Zone (with the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo...black & white, so bad, it's my all-time favourite movie ever. With a great cast, too--Danny Elfman as the devil, Herve Villechaise aka Tattoo, from Fantasy Island as the Ruler of the Sixth Dimension. It's got Squeezit the Chicken Boy, a human chandelier, a topless princess, and a frog butler name Bust Rod, who humps anyone he can. Oh, and it's a musical) SEE IT. Seriously.
Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter (opening scene, he's attacked by Lesbian Vampire bikers on the beach--gets knocked down, springs back up and beats his chest: "Body of Christ!" he yells, and proceeds to kick ass, kung-fu style)
Sindbad of the Seven Seas (Lou Ferrigno as Sindbad. You may know he had a speech impediment, so they dubbed his voice. Badly. The fact that they dubbed everyone else's didn't make up for that fact. The villain was named Jaffar, like in Disney's Aladdin, and looked just like him--I am convinced that he was the inspiration for Disney's version)
And of course, Andy Warhol's Dracula (Where the Romanians sounded Austrian, the Italians sounded French, except for the one "hero," with a Bronx accent. Lots of gratuitous nudity, too) and even worse, Warhol's Frankenstein (3-D, and so bad I couldn't even sit through more than half an hour)

Sometimes you just have to get down to it and call shit what it is.

Reel Horror. Argh, ack, barf.... Not even good as a campy bad movie like Killer Tomatos or Twilight of the Dogs

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Fri, March 23, 2007 - 10:44 AMGeez, I live in Rockville, is it that bad here? Anyway, ya gotta consider really bad B- horror/sci-fi movies of the fifties, before real special effects to see reallly baaad movies. I nominate-"Attack of the Killer Shrews", because the 'shrews' were short-haired trained dogs with long hair attached to their backs, and in the attacking close-ups they had ridiculously long, fake teeth, and they kept wagging their tails as they attacked the victims. At least Santa Claus etc. had a plot!

Sun, August 19, 2007 - 10:37 PMI don't usually watch movies beyond the 70's, but "Basic Instinct 2" is the worst high budget film I've seen in a long time. And this one is so good it's bad, ~I couldn't turn it off, it was so hilariously awful. It's not bad like The Matrix, where you're just bored & nauseated, ~Basic Instinct 2 is horrible enough to really enjoy.

Mon, August 20, 2007 - 9:26 AMI think "Manos hand of Fate" should win the dubious distinction of the WORST. MOVIE. EVAR. -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Wed, August 22, 2007 - 8:27 PM"Manos, the Hand of Fate" is definitely the worst to ever get the MST3K treatment. Every aspect of it is horrible: casting, lighting, sets, costumes, story, dialogue...good god. The only movie Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank ever apologized sending up to Joel. BUT...in the realm of recent movies: either Ben Affleck's "Daredevil" or Harrison Ford's "Firewall". Totally unwatchable for totally different reasons, but equally bad. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Fri, August 24, 2007 - 5:32 AMActually, as I said way upthread, and hesitate to say again lest I sound giddy, I kind of like Manos.
It makes me giggle, and it's fascinating in places, and it doesn't make me feel as if all the life has been sucked out of the world and that nothing will ever be beautiful or interesting or amusing again, because this movie exists in the world and has now entered my brain.
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians has that effect on me, Baby Pia aside. So do Hollywood debacles 1941 and Mission to Mars.

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Sun, January 6, 2008 - 6:29 AMadd any recent "indie" yuppie romantic comedy to the list. I just saw Wilsmif's I AM LEGEND and it certainly ranks as the worst film I've seen in a multiplex in the past year. Worst acting I've seen in ages... he actually rants about Bob Marley (worst rant ever) and then cries and sings Bob Marley to his dying dog. Ed Wood certainly could equal that! Terrible film. -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?

Thu, May 8, 2008 - 11:40 PM<< Ed Wood certainly could equal that! Terrible film. >>
I saw that movie. From what I've heard of Eddie, he would've likely rejected that scene as too sentimental and over-the-top. He would've done a tire screech then a cutaway to Smith and Bela Lugosi weeping at the dog's funeral. -
-
Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 9:44 AMBela wouldn't weep at the dog's funeral. He'd be weeping over some footage of dinosaurs in a split panel at the bottom of the screen. -

Re: Worst Movie Ever?
Tue, January 6, 2009 - 9:25 AM'the creeping terror' was so awful it was enjoyable... i love the idea that the monster moved so slow that people had to stand still for five minutes for the thing to reach them...
the 'monster from space' seems to be made of a large threadbare carpet with a huge wooden knob for a head - covered in vibrators ... and has dozens of human legs coming out from under the carpet
here comes the monster... pan to the frightened lady... pan back to the monster, still coming... pan back to the lady, lady looks scared... pan back to the monster, still fifteen feet away but crawling like crazy... pan back to the bored scared person covering her eyes... pan back to the monster, it seems to be stuck on the door frame...
..ultimately people had to dive into the monster just to keep up the pace of the movie...
i have to disagree with swampwolf though; i draw the line with hervé villechaize in the 'Forbidden Zone'. it is a terrible terrible movie
... i could actually feel brain cells frying, as i was frozen in place, watching in horror...trying to reach the off switch on my TV...
...and i could not turn it off ...
i kept on thinking it can't get any worse... and then it did !!!
i believe the experience has warped my brain
my recommendation would be that if you find this movie on tape... buy the tape... then run it over with your car... -

Tue, January 6, 2009 - 9:38 AMThanks for the gigglesome review, D'ner o!
I'll be sure to rent this one on those evenings when a cocktail of warm milk and Nyquil doesn't work as a soporific anymore.
You've described perfectly the particular mental state induced by certain types of rivetingly bad movies. For me, it's like they have the power of sucking all the fun out of the entire universe--like nothing will ever be interesting or fun again, and nothing ever was. There's nothing but....the awful, awful movie. It's like a sentient black hole of non-entertainment, that somehow manages to paralyze its victims. -
